Roots blowers, one of the equipment providing compressed air, are blower models that meet the need for low-pressure air required by processes. The operating principle of roots blowers can be defined as the rotation of two rotors (lobes) placed inside the body along the shaft without touching each other. During the rotation of the lobes, the ambient air drawn in from the atmosphere is compressed within the blower body and delivered under pressure towards the outlet.
One of the shafts connected to the lobes is extended outside the body for pulley connection. The other shaft is driven by this shaft with the help of a gear group. The tolerance in the distance between the lobes and the body directly affects the performance and pressure values of the roots blower. To maintain precise tolerance values and prevent the lobes from coming into contact with each other, the shafts are supported with bearings at various points within the body. To prevent the bearings from running dry and to ensure cooling, the roots blower body contains oil chambers on both sides, housing the gear and bearing groups. These groups are lubricated with synthetic or mineral-based oils filled into these chambers.
The roots blower is made operational by assembling the blower body, electric motor, belt-pulley, filter, etc., onto a chassis. The pulley attached to the shaft extending outside the blower body is coupled to another pulley on the electric motor with appropriate belts.
Also known as positive displacement blowers or air blowers, roots blowers are widely used in processes requiring low-pressure air. Due to their adaptability to different pressure and flow needs, ability to operate in harsh environmental conditions, ease of service, widespread availability of spare parts and service networks, positive displacement blowers are also commonly used in our country. In addition to being used in processes requiring low-pressure air, roots blowers can also be used in vacuum processes by making changes to the chassis and accessories.
